A full assessment, not an automatic prescription

Erection problems often have more than one cause. The doctor looks at each of them before talking about treatment.

  • Heart and circulation

Diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and smoking can all play a part.

  • Medicines and hormones

Some treatments, substances and hormone changes can contribute.

  • Stress and wellbeing

Anxiety, tiredness and your relationship are part of the conversation too.

What the doctor will review

Start by telephone or video. The doctor goes through your history and explains the safest next step.

  • How long it has been happening, and how often.
  • Your heart history and the medicines you take now.
  • Sex drive, spontaneous erections, stress and anxiety.
  • Whether you need a blood pressure check, blood tests or an in-person examination.

If you need an examination or tests, the doctor will tell you and explain why.

Questions men ask

English Doctor is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 112.

Is the consultation confidential?

Yes. It is handled as a private medical consultation, one to one by video or telephone.

Does the consultation guarantee a prescription?

No. A prescription is only issued if the doctor finds that treatment is indicated and safe for you.

Why does the doctor ask about my heart?

Erectile dysfunction can be linked to heart and circulation risk factors, and the treatments have contraindications. Your heart health is part of a safe assessment.

Can I buy Viagra online without a prescription?

Do not buy it without a prescription from unauthorised websites: they may sell fake or unsafe products. In Spain, sildenafil and tadalafil for erectile dysfunction need a prescription. The safe route is a medical assessment and, if appropriate, an e-prescription for an authorised pharmacy.

Do these tablets work on their own?

No. Sildenafil and tadalafil need sexual stimulation to work.

Is the medicine included in the €39?

No. The fee covers the consultation. Any medicine is paid for separately at the pharmacy. English Doctor does not sell medicines.
