How to use the Wegovy FlexTouch pen

The FlexTouch pen holds four weekly doses. Each week you fit a new needle, dial your dose and inject under the skin. With a new pen, you check the flow first. This guide follows the official Spanish leaflet, step by step.

  • 4doses in each pen
  • 1×injection a week
  • Flowcheck with each new pen
  • 6weeks at most once in use

These instructions do not replace a conversation with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist about your treatment.

Fit a new needle

steps 1 to 5
  1. Check the name and strength on the pen label.
  2. Pull off the pen cap. Look through the pen window: the medicine must be clear and colourless. Do not use the pen if it looks cloudy or coloured.
  3. Take a new needle. Check the paper tab and the outer cap are not damaged, then pull off the paper tab.
  4. Push the needle straight onto the pen and screw it on until it is tight.
  5. Pull off the outer needle cap and keep it. Pull off the inner cap and throw it away. Both caps must come off, or no medicine will be injected.

Check the flow

steps 6 to 8, only with each new pen
  1. Turn the dose selector until the flow-check symbol lines up with the dose pointer.
  2. Hold the pen with the needle pointing up. Press and hold the dose button until the dose counter goes back to 0.
  3. A drop of medicine should appear at the needle tip. The pen is ready to use.
No drop at the needle tip?
  1. Check the flow again, no more than 2 times.
  2. Still no drop: change the needle and check the flow again.
  3. Still no drop: do not use the pen.

Select the dose and inject

steps 9 to 13
  1. Turn the dose selector until the dose counter stops and shows your dose. The dotted line guides you. The selector clicks as you turn it: do not count the clicks.
  2. Choose the injection site: the front of the upper arm, the thigh or the stomach, 5 cm away from the navel.
  3. Insert the needle under your skin. Make sure you can see the dose counter, and do not touch it with your fingers: that could stop the injection.
  4. Press and hold the dose button until the counter shows 0. Keep holding it with the needle in your skin and count slowly to 6.
  5. Take the needle out. If there is blood, press lightly on the site. A drop of medicine at the needle tip is normal and does not affect your dose.
Why count to 6?If you take the needle out too soon, a stream of medicine may come out of the tip and you will not get the full dose.

After the injection

steps 14 to 17
  1. On a flat surface, guide the needle tip into the outer needle cap without touching the needle or the cap. When the needle is covered, push the cap fully on.
  2. Unscrew the needle and throw it away carefully. Never try to put the inner cap back on: you could prick yourself.
  3. Put the pen cap back on to protect the medicine from light. Never store the pen with a needle on.
  4. When the pen is empty, throw it away without a needle, as your pharmacist advises. The pen cap and the empty box can go in household waste.

If your dose is 7.2 mg

A doctor may increase the dose to 7.2 mg once a week after at least 4 weeks on 2.4 mg. It is the maximum dose, and it is not recommended for adolescents. It can come in two ways.

Three FlexTouch 2.4 mg injections

Inject three doses of 2.4 mg, one after another. They can go in the same area of the body, but at least 5 cm apart.

The Wegovy 7.2 mg pen

A different pen with one fixed dose and a hidden needle. The injection starts by itself when you press the needle cover against the skin, and a yellow bar moves in the window: do not lift the pen until it stops. Each pen is used once, and its own leaflet explains the steps.

Where to inject

Wegovy goes under the skin, never into a vein or muscle. You can use the same area of the body, but not the same spot as last time.

FrontBack
  • Stomach

Keep 5 cm away from the navel.

  • Thigh

  • Front of the upper arm

Between the shoulder and the elbow.

On 7.2 mg with three 2.4 mg injections, keep them at least 5 cm apart.

Storage and when to throw the pen away

Keep pens and needles out of sight and reach of children. Never inject Wegovy that has been frozen or left in direct sunlight.

6 weeks

Below 30 °C or in the fridge. Keep the pen cap on, and never store it with a needle.

I missed my weekly dose

If 5 days or fewer have passed, inject as soon as you remember, then take your next dose on your usual day. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and inject on your next usual day. Never inject a double dose to make up for it.

Do I check the flow every week?

No. Check the flow only before the first injection with each new pen. If your pen is already in use, go straight to selecting your dose.

The dose counter stopped before my dose

There is not enough medicine left for a full dose. Throw the pen away and use a new one.

The counter did not go back to 0

The needle may be blocked or damaged. You have not received the medicine, even if the counter moved from the dose you selected. Change the needle and select your dose again.

There is a drop at the needle tip after the injection

That is normal and does not affect your dose.

Can I change my injection day?

Yes, as long as at least 3 days have passed since your last injection. Then keep injecting once a week on the new day. You can inject at any time of day, with or without food.

Which needles can I use?

The box includes 4 NovoFine Plus needles, one for each dose. The pen is designed for disposable needles of 30G, 31G and 32G, up to 8 mm long. Use a new needle every time.

Can I share my pen?

No. Never share your pen or needles with anyone.
